We are a group of researchers, technologists, designers, and philosophers interested in learning about and experimenting with sustainable, sovereign (note: how about “decelerationist”?), and non-extractive forms of technology.
We initially came together as a group inspired by [starting a computer club] in order to “do permacomputing stuff”. Thus the things we do as part of the permacomputer club mainly draws from the principles of permacomputing but we are also not afraid of exploring a variety of technological practices and concepts that would allow us to work towards our vision of a more sustainable computing (note: computing or technology?).
Although we govern ourserlves in a cooperative fashion, where every decision is made through group consensus, we also follow a do-cratic model to encourage anyone to take up an initiatve, given that it aligns with our values.
As a nascent group, we are currently establishing basic technological infrastructure for our group to collaborate.
We hold online meetings every week where we do different things such as learn and practice permacomputing, discuss readings, and have open conversations!
Come and say hi on our IRC channel #permacomputerclub on Libera.Chat: Join through webchat.
Before joining, it might be helpful to have a basic idea of what permacomputing is and the values within permacomputing practice. We suggest checking out the permacomputing wiki, in particular the getting started and library pages.
We have also made a curated set of resources that we have found valuable in our journey of learning about permacomputing!
